Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' – Variegated Japanese Sedge
Plant Profile
Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' – Variegated Japanese Sedge
Light up shaded borders with the golden-striped foliage of 'Evergold' Japanese Sedge.
Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' is a grass-like perennial sedge, not a true grass, that forms neat mounds of slender, arching leaves with creamy-gold centers and deep green margins. Its cascading habit softens path edges and container rims, bringing bright contrast to ferns, hostas, and other broad-leaved shade plants. Repeat it along the front of a border for a ribbon of color or tuck a clump into a mixed planter where its striped foliage can spill gracefully over the side. Small brown flower spikes appear in spring, but the foliage remains the main attraction. Provide evenly moist, well-drained soil and protection from intense afternoon sun in hot climates; remove damaged leaves as needed to maintain a fresh appearance.
