Drought Tolerant

Build a lower-water landscape with grasses and companion plants selected to suit your sun exposure, soil and local climate. Drought tolerance varies by species and growing conditions; it does not mean a newly planted root ball can be left dry.

Water during establishment and adjust irrigation as roots spread into the surrounding soil. Check each plant's individual requirements, particularly where winter drainage, summer heat or reflected heat may affect performance.

Explore California native plants for regional choices, or compare ornamental grasses, sedges and rushes.
