Perennial: Evergreen. Tolerates heat, deer, coast, & drought. California native. Good slope cover, lawn sub, & for erosion control. Tolerant of dry, rocky soil, sand, alkaline & saline conditions. Attracts butterflies & birds. The grayish spikelets mature to wheat in winter. In spring, the 2 foot spikes rise above the foliage and then arch over foliage. Ht: 3-4 ft. Width: 3-4 ft. Exposure: sun/part shade. Water: moderate/dry. USDA Z7-9. |
