Plant Profile
Festuca rubra – Red Fescue
Festuca rubra – Red Fescue, Creeping Red Fescue
A wonderfully adaptable semi-evergreen grass, Festuca rubra is equally at home as a lawn alternative, meadow grass, or groundcover on slopes and in rock gardens. It tolerates drought, deer, and coastal conditions, and uniquely handles shade — rare among ornamental grasses. Attractive purple-tinged spikelets bloom in spring through summer. Both clumping and spreading in habit, it provides excellent coverage with minimal maintenance.
